The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a retirement savings and investment plan for Federal Government employees and members of the uniformed services, including the Ready Reserve. It offers the same types of savings and tax benefits that many private corporations offer their employees under 401(k) plans. The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) faced many challenges as it prepared to educate people about the TSP. It needed to engage a diverse audience, whose differences in age and experience spanned more than 50 years. It also wanted to personalize a single experience for both civilian and uniformed services members with different retirement options available for all. And, with the immense quantity of critical information, it was important to find ways to break up the information into meaningful sections that would educate without overwhelming.
Information Experts was tasked to modernize the approach taken to educating participants on the benefits of the TSP .Information Experts assisted in revising the content and the materials provided by the FRTIB and developed a dynamic DVD and web application that presented the material in a way that was educational, engaging, and interactive. The journey to retirement was visualized as three distinct environments encompassing animation, sound, video, and striking graphics. Information Experts developed games that served to inject fun into the learning experience and to provide meaningful interactions with well-timed, instructive feedback/results that were designed to engage the participant and to promote advanced learning. Information Experts incorporated video avatars that were customized depending on user demographics (Uniformed Services versus Civilian, and the individual’s time to retirement), and that were incorporated strategically throughout the interactive application. Personal calculators were developed to provide customized financial planning. Information Experts was also tasked with the redesign of the marketing plan, packaging materials, and production and distribution of the DVD nationwide.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that oversees lawful immigration to the United States.
USCIS requires a large volume of diverse communication materials to reach its internal and external stakeholders, but does not have the in-house resources and expertise to produce them.
Information Experts along with its partner provides graphic designers who work onsite with USCIS’s Customer Services Public Engagement Directorate, Office of Citizenship, and Office of Communications to produce a high volume of graphic design materials that include flash presentations, tent cards, publications, posters, invitations, banners, flyers, brochures, customer guides, and more. We also provide photography services, print management expertise, technical writing and editing, as well as services related to specialty projects such as web design, public exhibit design, and video production.
The Information Expert team hires the graphic designers and facilitates their security clearances so they can work onsite at USCIS offices. Once the designers are onsite, Information Experts works closely with the USCIS project managers and the onsite graphic designers to complete a variety of design tasks.
Because USCIS’s audiences includes immigrants, the Information Experts team also produces materials in numerous foreign languages that are as diverse as Korean and Farsi.
The Information Experts team continues to successfully complete the tasks specified in the statement of work and has been flexible to complete additional work requests.
The Information Experts team has proven to be a valuable partner for USCIS in its ability to provide expertise in several areas and consistently delivers high quality graphic support services. With work that has been nominated for industry awards, Information Experts’ graphic designers have contributed to a number of projects that have been lauded by senior USCIS management. Information Experts’ designers also helped create the new DHS mission statement graphic that reflects the pillars and priorities of the DHS workforce.
