Information Experts to Share E-Learning Expertise at International Conference

RESTON, VIRGINIA, February 9, 2009—In addition to its award winning strategic communications focus, Information Experts (IE) is becoming increasingly recognized for its leadership in providing training and e-Learning solutions for government and Fortune 500 organizations that increase productivity, strengthen relationships, and improve individual and organizational performance.

IE has been invited to share its e-Learning expertise with top researchers, educators, and corporate trainers from around the globe during the ICELW 2009: The International Conference on E-Learning in the Workplace, to be held June 10 - 12 at Columbia University in New York.

IE Vice President of Instructional Design, David Derr, Director of Instructional Design, Dr. Terry Mackey, and Web Usability Analyst, Ellie O’Connor, will present Enhancing Asynchronous Online Learning Tools with Effective Formative Assessment to this prestigious group. This interactive presentation gives valuable information about two distinctly different types of e-Learning assessments and the affect each has on instructional outcomes, on-the-job performance and online learning ROI.

“Many instructional designers emphasize summative assessments or end-of-course testing. In our presentation we will illustrate how summative assessments, though they will determine if learning transfer did not occur, often occur too late for effective and efficient remediation, and at the expense of learner confidence and motivation. Formative assessment, on the other hand, allows for remediation when and where it is needed,” explains Derr. “The online formative assessment options available to WBT professionals today have never been greater—regardless of time and budget constraints. IE has been extremely successful in this area and welcomes the chance to share best practices with other learning professionals.”

The ICELW is an international conference focused on e-Learning in the workplace and is sponsored by the International E-Learning Association in partnership with the Teachers College at Columbia University, The International Conference on Computer-Aided Learning, The International Conference on Blended and Computer-Aided Learning, and the International Conference on Mobile Computer-Aided Learning. The ICELW program will explore a broad spectrum of topics relating to e-Learning in the workplace, with the aim of presenting the most relevant and promising ideas in research and practice, then build on them to bring about excellence and innovation in workplace e-Learning.
