IE Wins Communicator Award for Online Game

RESTON, VIRGINIA, June 16, 2008—The Communicator Awards announced that Information Experts has won the Communicator Award of Distinction for the design and development of an online crossword puzzle for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The crossword application supports “RadTown USA,” EPA’s virtual community that promotes radiation awareness for children aged 12-16 years old. The puzzle – fusing Internet, graphic design, and instructional best practices – reinforces educational content found in RadTown USA and provides students the opportunity to self-assess how much they’ve learned. The application generates a new puzzle for each visitor.

The Communicator Awards is one of the largest creative awards organizations in the world. The judging panel, comprising members from the International Academy of the Visual Arts, reviewed over 8,000 entries and recognized only those “communications professionals who display superior creativity.”

“EPA’s Office of Radiation and Indoor Air, with whom we’ve been working over the past four years, does a tremendous job of informing the public about the radiation-related risks and benefits that surround us in our everyday lives,” said David Whitrap, Information Experts’ Creative Director. “This crossword puzzle application transmits these general radiation protection messages through a suitable delivery mechanism for middle school and high school students. The early reviews have all been positive.”
